Antony Price, the visionary British fashion designer responsible for a series of unforgettable images favored by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has died at the age of 80.

Price was best known for his sculptured silhouettes and theatrical styles, including the soft-colored suits that became famous from the iconic band Duran Duran's classic music video for "the song Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message across their platforms."

Price's death comes shortly after he debuted his most recent collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. The performer Lily Allen walked in a dress that paid homage to the notorious black velvet "dress" once worn by Princess Diana.

A Lasting Legacy

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price relocated to London at the start of the 1960s to enroll at the renowned Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he commenced his career designing men's fashion at Stirling Copper and was behind the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger wore during The Rolling Stones' Gimme Shelter tour in the late sixties.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show featured as its opener outfits on supermodel Jerry Hall, who later wore the bridal gown Price designed for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A long-time collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the memorable jacket the singer wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His trademark skill to merge menswear and womenswear along with his masterful technique in designing sculptural silhouettes cemented his status as a "true original," as stated by the UK's fashion authority.

In the 1990s, he began working on outfits for Camilla, now Queen Consort, including a number of outfits for her tour of the United States following her marriage.

With a vocation that covered half a century, Price presented his final runway show in London recently in conjunction with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

  • Defined Shapes: A hallmark of his work.
  • Theatrical Flair: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • Working with Stars and Royalty: From David Bowie and Mick Jagger to Queen Camilla.

Design circles says farewell to a true visionary whose impact on fashion and music remains indelibly etched.
