Ex- Physician Faces Assault Charges Against 38 Individuals in His Care
Prosecutors have announced that a ex- physician stands accused of carrying out assaults involving 38 individuals who were under his care.
Details of the Serious Charges
The accused, Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham has been charged with numerous acts of sexual assault – comprising acts against minors under the age of thirteen – between 2017 and 2021.
A senior prosecutor said, “Legal teams have worked at length to assist a detailed and complex investigation, meticulously examining the evidence to determine that there is sufficient evidence to proceed to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”
Scope of the Investigation
These allegations come after what police described as a “detailed inquiry” into reported sexual offences at two hospitals: the Royal Stoke university hospital and Russells Hall hospital.
Spencer will appear at the North Staffordshire justice centre on 20 January.
Breakdown of Charges
Prosecutors said the forty-five sexual offences comprise:
- Fifteen counts of assault.
- 17 counts of assault by penetration.
- 9 counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
- Three counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
- 1 count of attempting to assault by penetration.
