Fans Urge Custody of Person Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Devoted supporters of Ariana Grande are calling for that a individual who leaped a fence and touched the performer during Thursday's Wicked: For Good premiere be arrested or deported from Singapore.
A viral clip reveals the Australian man pushing past photographers and charging at Grande while the actors made its way down a yellow carpet accompanied by supporters.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo promptly wrested the shocked performer away from Mr Wen, who was seen being escorted out of the premiere by event staff.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "released after being taken in", though legal records revealed that he was set to be present on the following morning. It is not clear if he was charged.
Pattern of Incidents
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Troll Most Hated", has invaded a performance. His Instagram profile includes clips of him interrupting other celebrity events, including jumping on stage at the artist's Sydney show in recently and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers performance in the area last December.
"Steps should be implemented taken against him as this is obviously a punishable act," stated an Instagram commenter, in a reply to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his behavior.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" one Instagram user questioned.
Followers Express Concern Over the Star's Safety
Several supporters blamed Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had revealed experiencing trauma-related anxiety after a terrorist explosion at the end of her May 2017 show in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and injuring numerous individuals.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" wrote one more response on Instagram.
Several fans also faulted security officers at the Thursday event for not being vigilant enough; while some requested social media platforms to block Mr Wen's uploads.
Reaction and Event Details
In footage shared widely, Grande looked surprised when she was grabbed by the intruder. Her co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed comforting her while Mr Wen was led out by guards.
Grande has remained silent on the incident, and the premiere activities continued without further issues.
Hundreds of fans had assembled in a sea of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good regional premiere in a Singapore shopping center, including some who had stood in line for as long as eight hours before it commenced.
The film, to be launched on November 21, is the follow-up of a two-part version of the popular stage musical Wicked, which centers on the unexpected friendship between two very different witches.
The musical itself is a derivative of the classic book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the character Glinda Glinda, was decked out in a rosé sequin dress at the premiere while Erivo, who portrays the wicked witch, wore a elegant ensemble featuring roses.
They were joined by fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the highest-grossing movie of the previous year in the UK, and scored a dozen Academy Award nods, earning two for best costume and production design.
