LA Battles Unprecedented High Temperatures Just One Week After Severe Winter Storm.
Following a week of significant rainfall that resulted in floodwaters across parts of the city, the City of Angels is now confronting unseasonably warm conditions for this time of year.
Record-Shattering Readings
During the day Friday, the thermometer soared to 33 degrees Celsius (91 Fahrenheit) in central LA, per data from weather officials. This exceeds the prior high for this date, which was 31 degrees Celsius (88 Fahrenheit) and was set in 2025.
"Exceptionally warm weather" were noted on forecast charts for the region.
Public Health Alerts
The weather service cautioned that Friday's heat posed an "higher threat for heat illness" for people sensitive to heat. Their guidance included:
- Drinking plenty of fluids.
- Limiting outdoor activities during the afternoon hours of the day.
- Never leaving kids or animals unattended in a parked vehicle.
A Dramatic Reversal
This dramatic increase in mercury arrives just after a massive winter storm that battered the state last week. That storm brought high winds, thunderstorms, and significant snowfall to higher elevations, triggering flash flood warnings for many residents.
Unfortunately, the severe weather also resulted in a large avalanche in the Tahoe area, which left nine people dead from.
Forecast Ahead
Looking ahead a cooldown is coming. Temperatures were expected to drop to around 61°F (16°C) in the city by late Friday.
Additional areas that experienced the 90-degree mark were Woodland Hills, Long Beach, and Burbank. Meanwhile, Oxnard, Westwood, Camarillo, and Santa Maria were forecast to reach the upper eighties.
Over Saturday and Sunday, downtown LA can anticipate readings in the eighties, with cooler weather expected for the week ahead.
