Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Has Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Loss
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was natural for doubts to be asked about his future following another heavy defeat versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their ninth defeat in twelve games, marking the team's poorest run since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing evening at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I have got plenty of support from the top,” the coach commented.
“It's important to reverse this trend and get a victory obviously but when you're working as a coach and underperforming then it's expected that doubts arise.”
He added, “I am OK with my role. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a challenging situation but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Talks with Club Management
When asked to expand on his discussions with the team officials, the head coach revealed:
“There's regular dialogue. They assist for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me constantly of the day to say they trust me.”
He added, “Through standard exchanges I perceive the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat so far so we'll see.”
Recurring Issues and Squad Response
The manager expressed regret over known weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, namely wasted chances and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Jones was blunter in his view of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” Jones stated.
“It's simply not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I’m past feeling anger internally. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the words.”
He added, “It's tough because I play for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club for years.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a period of this nature with results like these.”
He finished, “But we still have the emblem on our chest. And until it is taken away, we’re always going to battle.”
“We will attempt to get this team back to where it needs to be, prove again the values of this club and why people call it the best team in the planet.”
“But right now, things are bad and it needs to change.”
