The Hit Drama Confirmed for Seventh Series on BBC
The beloved police drama Line of Duty is officially returning for its seventh season, announced by the broadcaster.
An upcoming six-episode season written by Jed Mercurio will begin filming in Belfast this spring, according to the production team.
Vicky McClure shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, stating she was "so excited" about the series' return. Her co-star added, "What a joy it is to know that the main trio will be back filming together next year."
The last series wrapped up in 2021 with a finale that attracted more than 17 million audience members. Rumors about a potential return have been circulating for some time, but confirmation only came this week.
New Challenges for AC-12
Series seven will open with AC-12 no longer existing and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by the announcement.
Martin Compston's character, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain working to tackle corruption within the police force.
The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, these officers will take on their "most delicate case to date."
Fresh Face and Intricate Plot
A new character, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charismatic officer known for busts of criminal networks, faces allegations of misusing his authority to become a sexual predator.
However, his case might serve as a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still operating in the background, the teaser suggested.
In a statement, Jed Mercurio commented: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."
"We're privileged to have had so many followers track the developments of the unit over multiple series and we couldn't be more delighted to be returning for a seventh season."
He added: "Corruption in this country was thought to be over while Line of Duty was off air, so I've been compelled to use my imagination."
Cast Reactions
Martin Compston called appearing in the police drama as "the role of a career".
"Beyond the show's success but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I can't wait to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he added.
Vicky McClure remarked: "It goes without saying I'm very happy Line of Duty is back! Can't wait to work with the creator, Compston and Adrian again. Belfast, we'll see you soon!"
Adrian Dunbar noted: "While anticipating the unit days of Christmas, how exciting it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming next year."
"Delighted with the announcement and anticipating those unexpected plot developments."
